Block Print Wrapping Paper Fail! · Craftwhack
I've decided to start the new year's day past presenting a project fail. Nosotros all accept them (I have more than than my share, because I take no patience and try to bustle through steps or use the wrong tools.)
I was all set to postal service this adorable paw-printed wrapping newspaper projection before Christmas. Instead, yous get to see the mess that became of when I effort to make linoleum cake prints with my unsuspecting daughter. I think I may have turned her off to printing forever, poor daughter.
Showtime nosotros gathered our blocks and linoleum cutters.
We traced around the block several times so Fen could make various drawings.
Subsequently choosing one, we transferred it onto the cake past tracing over the pencil lines.
Then I had the brilliant idea of placing a warm atomic number 26 on the linoleum to make it easier to carve. Bad idea. Use a hair dryer instead.
Always cleave abroad from you, and away from your hands.
Voila! Our finished carvings, (including the scorch-mark from the iron).
This is where the failure began. Or continued, if you count the iron incident.
Nosotros tried: rolling glittery Martha Stewart paints on the blocks, painting acrylics on the blocks, rolling printing inks on the blocks, stamping the blocks in rolled ink, watering down all of the above, and wiping away areas of ink. All we got were nasty, goopy half-prints.
Since we still had some presents to adorn, we pulled out the trusty paint brushes. Come across how cute?
So. Perhaps you still want to try linoleum block printing? Here's an crawly video from Jennifer Leban on how to exercise it correctly. We will be trying this again. Oh yep, nosotros will.
What practise you lot recollect?
